I fitted some old Konis on my car to pass the last MOT (when money was tight)....they were the same only without the spring(?) around them.ie,the same colour, arrowed sticker and rubber covers.

So I would guess at them being Koni.

I have exactly that wierd coil type konis for my car also. I think their used for cars that have nivomat springs in the rear? I removed them from this one SD1 and the rear dropped like 3-4cm after removal.

Hi guys,

Koni's are on my purchase list as a possibly buy. Can you explain me the behavior of the car with Konis fitted. Can you recommend a combination with appropriate springs.
Someone who wants to get rid of a pair of decent koni shocks?
Also for the front suspension. If they are only uncomfortable then they are not the right for me.

Thank you for your suggestions.

regards
Christof

hi my vitesse run with koni inserts in frt + was spot on/perfect for my use without being too stiff till one died They were off car adjustable but ok if not set too hard.[i preffered them to spax- just personal likes] New spax adjustable frts have been no probs 2000mls though im away to change modified frt cradle if i ever have time but on car adjustable seems possibly easier.
rear spax adjustable shox have failed twice with me though they are worked pretty hard + over a length of time konis yet to try ,though i believe they are no probs for road use .Intend to change to twin rear shocks but time /money needs kept in check for the now.

Do you have std. (black-coated) springs or some uprated items fitted?

uprated for last few years cuts body roll drasticaly along with a few other changes .I did run standard vitesse springs with original koni frt+ spax rear + improved from standard tenfold .To be honest the shox help greater than springs

yep sounds same as mine .I found rear a bit hard so went for 14"dished wheels with 245 + 70 series tyres Excelent grip on bumpy, sandy ,twisted ,potholed roads here where max speed not essential.Low profile bigger wheels didnot give me enough give with rear springs on the hard side .Down to cash as well -why spend 200+ on tyres when the 245s were in my shed?Higher slightly at rear than prefer but can go round corners how i want it to. Smile

rear wheels supposedly mustang but not sure .The ones in my car photo has a pair of alloys [off a trike £20 from inverness]with winter type tread 225 70 14 allows lots of grip but no use for high speeds.Pretty much have a philosophy of -prefer to drive car as much as poss without lashing out loads of dosh unless needed.Use whats available + affordfable . 205/50/15 was a disaster when twin plenum was on due to rear end being too hard to control . A pair of 245 meant for a mustang rally car has never been too exessive out of control with my suspension set up [yet]+ not without trying ,though it slides plenty. I have a full set of 225 60 15 pirelli but off for the winter due to getting stuck on flat surfaces in snow last year.

Hi guys,

I want to follow up this topic, because I have just got a pair of Konis.

They are originally for the Range Rover front and they are looking nearly identical to those on the right of the picture above from Gogs.
Moreover those in the Rimmer catalogue listed are also exeptional large.
I assume that you can take this Range Rover front shocks for the back of the SD1, but I'm not sure.
Therefore I would like to make a comparison of the dimensions of mine with those of the picture from Gogs.
The largest diameter of mine is about 6.5 cm, compressed the length over all is 46 cm, full stretched the length is 66 cm.
Please I would be very happy if you could give me your suggestions about this matter.
Kind regards
Christof

Hi sorry ive been away a while -work
my konis are 640mm long including welded on threaded pins
520mm long not inclusive of pins

pushed in -430mm/310mm
there is a bump stop fitted inside the top 64mm metal cover which needs removed pre adjustment.Bumpstop can be removed by pushing wire down through the two holes in top cover Though no time yet to try mine out .suspect better not setting" too "hard to allow better contact on ground Question

Thank's for the reply.
I would now assume, that I have the same shocks as you.
As you didn't try them out, I will do so shortly. I also got already the new springs 143low and painted them in red, very nice for the inspection officer.

I agree not to make them too firm, I will go for the weakest adjustment first.

I would inform you when I have tried them out.

Cheers
Christof
