Hi all, found out where my clutch fluid was disappearing to - inside the cabin! Seems the master cylinder has sprung a leak around the pushrod area.

Got a generic reconditioning kit to replace the rubber piston seal, but does anyone have any tips/experience in doing this? First issue i can see is undoing the hydraulic pipe - how to avoid spilling fluid everywhere?

Many thanks,

Ray

It's not unusual to find clutch fluid leaking from the master cylinder into
the cabin, the seals will perish over time (and lack of use won't help).
You are best off releasing the clutch fluid at the slave (gearbox) end,
you won't get fluid everywhere then. You'll need to refill anyway, and
it's probably a good idea to change the fluid once in a while (as it's
hygroscopic , it likes to absorb water).

Rimmers do a proper seal replacement kit for the SD1 clutch master
(and similar for the slave). So if the generic item you have doesn't
cut the mustard, I'd advise getting the Rimmers item.

cheers Chris, good advice. It's those tips you don't find in the manuals eh Exclamation

Parts from Rimmers are an option, but as I'm in NZ there's a postage cost and time delay. Hopefully the generic part will do the trick.

Thanks again,

Ray

good news, the generic PBR branded kit worked fine. I've done enough contortion moves for the night, need a helper tomorrow to tighten the bolts fixing the master cylinder to the firewall.

can't wait to take it out for a test drive Smile
