For those who are not able to read the Yahoo SD1 forum
message. The linked message mentions an interesting VDP
EFi car which has a number of unusual, but 'factory
fit', features. One of which is seat-belt warnings in both
front seats. The VDP EFi in question is a 'C' registration.

Now, I thought the seat-belt warning was only on one
of the front seats, not both (not sure which one though,
the drivers?). Looking in my parts guide, only ONE seat
switch is listed, but strangely TWO seat switch wiring
harnesses! The parts guide also seems to indicate the
seat belt warning sensors were only included to VIN
287463 build May 1983. This sounds about right as I
believe the SD1 seat belt warning feature was deleted
when front seat belt wearing became compulsory in the UK
(January 31st 1983).

My Y reg 2000 had two seat belt warning switches. I guess you had to sit in the seat to activate them, though maybe not, because a previous owner had cut the wires under the seats.

My 86 2300 does not have them.

The seat-belt warning on the dash will illuminate when the seat
is sat in, but the belt is not buckled.

Thinking about it, only one switch is needed - on the passenger
seat. As the driver MUST be there to turn the ignition! That
explains the parts guide. So the warning works off either
seat when the seat-belt is not buckled, but the passenger one
is disabled when the seat is empty.

I guess your Y-reg car either had a seat squab swap or Rover
simplified assembly and started to put switches in all squabs.

It's possible that it only had one under the passenger seat and the driver's one was just the wiring to the buckle. It was a several years ago that I had the car, and I didn't keep it for very long at all. (It was a total shed and fit only for the scrapheap!)
