Hello, and greetings from the USA.

I am trying to get a 1980 SD1 back on the road as a daily driver and need to order shocks. Parts are hard to come by here, and was hoping that someone knows the Koni part numbers that fit so I can see if I can order them through local sources.

Are the Koni units worth considering or should I pursue the GAZ units.

I am looking for recommendations on fast road use.

Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer.

Tom

You also need a set of non-nivomat springs to the rear. The nivomat springs are very soft and wont hold the car on correct rideheight with konis.

Oh, good point.

Would that also be required with the GAZ replacement units?

Absolutely. You may even want uprated springs for _fast_ road use. Nivomat springs are no good for conventional shocks.

Cheers,

I was under the impression that only Vanden Plas models had the self-levelling Nivomat shocks and associated springs?

All SD1s had Nivomats from new EXCEPT 2000 and 2300 models, and I
believe in all countries. They were not even an option on these models,
though could be retrofitted.

I have however seen koni shocks with additional springs tied around the shock tube to counter the sagging with nivomat springs. Mine are like that.

You're right, I've just checked the Rimmer Bros website and it confirms it. My vitesse has no rubber gaiters at the bottom of the shock, they just plain old shocks. Someone mut have swapped them at some point...
