Hi, as anybody upgraded the speakers in the front doors? I wanted to go bigger than the original 10cm size, so I wonder if anybody has done it. Thanks

I think many have done it BUT I think bigger speaker wont fit under the doorpanel anymore so you would have to make some chewing gum patent to install them to the doorpanel or glassfiber a whole new "pod" to it in place of the old speaker "grille".

Heres my vision of my SD1 front component system. Tweeters glassfibered to the mirror triangles, 3" mid-sounds in the place of the old 4" speakers and then make a small box out of MDF (propably) which is fixed to the seat frame so it slides with the front seat which houses 2x 6.5" mid-bass speakers
Or if I cant go with 3way system I will still glassfiber the tweeters to the mirror triangles but instead of putting 6.5" to slide with the seat I will instead glassfiber it to the door panel and make a small pod in place of the speaker grille.

AND before anybody comes saying funny things about loosing hearing, me being a chav etc etc... I will just say that Im more of this sound quality type person than some loud volume guy.

Hey, I'm more of a "too much power is just about right" type of guy...However I do like the SD1(and Escort Rs Turbo, but we'll leave that for another day) to look as intended.

You don't need a thousand Watts to hear it but at 50 Watts its crystal clear.

Wattage has nothing to do with how good the speakers produce certain frequencies and thats where the 10cm doorspeakers suck shall i say what? Sure 4" is good for mid-sounds but anything under 250hz is just pushing your luck. PLUS if your good at glassfiber work you could make it look like it was intended that way and only car people can tell the difference. Its only people who like to paint everything bright blue that make the glassfiber pods look outrageously non-standard

I put some Sony 10cm speakers in my doors, they sounded pretty good too, originally put 10cm's in the rear too, to replace the standard(crappy) Rover speakers that were in the car from new. Ended up putting some nice 6" x 9" speakers in the rear parcel shelf, I had been given a half decent parcel shelf so I cut holes in it & shoved the speakers in it. Now they sound very good! & the 10cm's in the doors set it all off quite well, no amps or tweeters or any of that stuff

Theres nothing but improvement when you change the old 10cm speakers at front... Even the cheapest and crappiest aftermarket speakers you can buy at "gipsys selection co. ltd" are a lot better than what the old and tired speakers are. Even if I bought the most expensive and best 2-way 10cm speakers to the front they wont do much good when the tweeter element is releasing sounds at your feet. Exaggeration? Not to me Very Happy

What comes to 6x9. Theres also perfectly good holes for 4x6 speakers and you can easily make some adapter plates out of MDF or plywood to mount a set of 6x9 in there. Plus thats more of hidden setup than putting them on the parcel shelf where every lowly scum can see what to steal next.

The two way 10cm's I put in the doors cost me a fair amount as I recall, paid about 70 quid for 4 of them, was told it would be better to have a tweeter somewhere in the door also, but not too far away from the actual speakers, but didn't bother in the end coz I couldn't think of where to put them! The 6 x 9's also cost a pretty penny, am currently planning to re cover the parcel shelf so they cannot be seen!
