Bloke on the phone said 1991. But yes, that is a long time. My dad's Vitesse has been off the road since 1996. Quite solid, needs some work, though (rusty door botttoms, EFI [reason it was taken off the road in the 1st place], brakes, tyres...). Want that one as well.
A 19yo with a three-car (sorry-project) fleet (the other being an Imp)!
I seem to have Compulsive Heap-buying Disorder. It is fun, though. |

Your a man after my own heart, look at it this way, you wont get aopportunity like that again! This is THE rarest SD1 model in existence, and all for £100!
If you do decide against it mate please let me know as I would have to do something so it doesnt get scrapped. _________________ 1979 Rover SD1 V8-S

Was there any damage evident from the strap under the roof that they had used to lift the car?

Another restless night for you it seems Tim.
Don't worry though, I'm sure someone will save it.... |

Persuaded my parents that it is a good idea (they are not entirely convinced, but they are Ok with it)- now just have to work out how to get it back, and where it is going to go when it is back here.
My dad reckons that the Audi will cope with towing the Rover.
The only problem is that he is going on 10 days holiday to Greece- the earliest that we will be able to get up there is the 19th May.
I have had a quote for transport- came in at £250. A bit much, when we can tow it for £50 petrol.
I will phone up later and see if I can buy it over the phone, and collect it then.
We have the space, but we are loosing some of it at the end of the year, meaning that some of our non-working cars will have to go. The problem is planning what will happen to what- we have three cars (Vitesse, V8-S, Scimitar SE5a) that we want to keep, and really only 2 garage spaces.
Although my dad is considering selling the Vitesse (A reg) and the scim. and getting one car that works. But then I want the Vitesse, too- if sold, it will probably be broken (stored 11 years now), but it is fairly sound.
Tim- I have had difficulty getting to sleep lately, too. |

Drop the prop shaft if you are towing it any distance! And remember
the V8-S will have, most likely, NO BRAKES after being stood for
so long. Trailer it if you can.
Have you got an engine to put in the V8-S? |

Hi Chris P- thanks for that, but we have a trailer that the rover will go on- so that is not a problem.
I do not currently have and engine, but there is one on t'bay at the moment about 5 miles from me, so that should do- even comes with a spare autobox.
I just got another quote for transport, this time of £110- which is more reasonable. might look into this if it can be done before the 19th.

Have you tried Lizard Logistics for a transport quote James?
I've heard they are good value.

The only things I am tempted to do are to replace the stereo and speakers (new ones in correct grilles), keeping the correct ones, and a manual 'box (although an auto would be a new experience anyway- and it is a big job to swap- will just stick with the slush box). |

Theres no harm in replacing them with aftermarket ones if you can't get originals. The speakers are hidden behind speaker covers
and i dont think anyone still uses cassettes!

Automatics may be slow but they do make driving much easier and they are so simple to drive. My friends get confused when they drive in an automatic! They ask wheres the clutch?! |

I have Bought it. The cheque will be in the post later.
I phoned up, and said that I was very interested in the car. I spoke to David- We ended up at a price of £180- the £100 was too low. Even so, I feel it is a very good price, considering the rarity value.
I should be able to collect on the 19th May, if not then any weekend after that. I will see where I can store it back here- I can probably just about squeeze it in.
I will take lots of photos.
