Hi!
I've got 225/60/15 tyres on my vitesse rims. So 225 width fits. But i advise 225/55/15 to get the right ride height. This dimension gives you just about the same profile as the 205/60/15 set up. It makes the car
look much more imposing. Personnally i find it looks great, but you have to like the 'bubble' tyre look. It gives really good traction and braking while hardennig the steering a bit.

you ll get the same traction from both tyres since they're the same width, but the 55 tyres will give sharper handling. The 55 tyres are a bit more expensive ( approx 90£ a piece, at least thats the price in france because by the way i'm living in france!) than the 60 series but especially they're harder to find. There isn't much choice in the 225/55 series, only two models if I'm correct. The advantage of the 225/60 tyres is that they're fitted on the second last 5 series BMW, so there's plenty of choice, even second hand. The down side with these tyres is that the diametre is almost an inch bigger than standard 205 tyres which messes up the speedo by about 10%. Also, I've got these tyres on my 2600 mk1 (with vitesse alloys) which doesn't have the MK2 front spoiler, let alone a deep chin, and I had to cut out some plastic up front ( from the smal mk1 spoiler) in the wheel arch so it wouldn't rub! A cheaper solution would be to keep the 205 tyres up front but put 225/60s in the back. Dragster style!
You'll have the traction on acceleration and out of curves.

Got 255/55/15s Nankangs on the back o my Vitesse but then again the way i drive (its stress relief officer honest) i need the extra rubber.
But on the front i have 225/65/15's as they were lying around and the ground clearance comes in handy when you do a lot of driving on cra**y B roads.
This works well but looks awfull (nose up tail down) so i am gonna change 'em
Thinking of going for 225/65/15's all round when i next change them as i like the high profile look but i am undecided as the best compromise between ride/handling/grip.
What is yours running K5? the hight looks good but mebbe a little to skinny for my tastes.. _________________ "A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five."

unless your car has been lowered i would think 50 section tyres would look to low profile (massive gap between arch and tyre) as even my 55 section ones look far to small to me.
I love the width of the 225's tho really makes a difference.. _________________ "A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five."

I have ran 225/50/15's on the back of my Vitesse, I think you can also get away with the same on the front, any wider though I think they starts rubbing.
I have now gone back to 205/60/15's as I treated her to new rubber all round - Goodyeay F1's
I always believe you should run decent branded rubber, it's all that is between you and the road, especially if you are using some of the horsepower _________________ Regards

As I have a Vanden Plas without the Vitesse lowered suspension, does everyone think 215/60 x 15s would be OK, I'm after a fuller tyre look, not necessarily worried about better handling etc. |

Should be fine! I have been told that i cannot go any wider on the front due to the coilovers. _________________ Drives a 4.6 300 BHP TP Vitesse! SD1 Club Member. Car of the Month Dec 06, winner of Car of the year 2007! |

I have 225/60/15's on my Vitesse, I'm a little confused by the whole numbers thing though! As far as I've been told the 225 is the width of the tyre tread, 60 is the depth or aspect ratio of the tyre, & 15 is the wheel diameter. That's about right isn't it?
When I bought my Vitesse, it had 225/60/15's on the back & 205/60/15's on the front. The intention was to put 205's on all round, but then I got hold of some 225's cheap so now that's what's staying on the car for now... _________________ Auto Vitesse, gonna be a beast! |

Yea thats right. How do the 225 / 60 spin under the arches? I tried a set of 235/65 R15 to my SD1 rear and they filled the arch completely (our lotus rear tyres) _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.
