I need to replace the nivomat of my car, but they are not findable in France (I'm french). Is there a similar reference or a sustitute ? Thanks.

New nivomats are no longer available, however they do show up sometimes on ebay or through Sd1 spares outlets but are very expensive.

Rimmerbros do a conversion kit which includes 2 new sprinsg and standrad type shock absorbers. I too need some new rear nivomats for my Sd1!

I can highly recommend using the Monroe type LA352 air adjustable shock absobers as described in the Dutch Rene Winters site :-

The ride height can be adjusted by pumping up the shocks with an ordinary electric air pump operated from the cigarette lighter. I have found it very usefull for towing and the ride solo is also good. The springs that I used were the non nivomat type that were fitted to the 2000 and 2300 models.

My mate has just bought a lovely one owner 2600 S comeplete with the monroe shock and adjustable suspension for towing, yes there great for pulling a van but make th ecar look like a offroader at the back as they make it sit so high up, and the ride is a bit twicthcy.

The springs I used were part no.GRS 141 - 2000/2300 non self levelling springs. With regard to the ride height it can be adjusted to standard height. I have used this set up on my 1985 VDP EFI and the ride height (solo) when reduced to a pressure of 2 bar is correct for that model (according to the Rover Manual). If you wanted it even lower than standard you could use Rimmer Bros lowered springs p/no. GRS 141low. But please don't take my word for it, see the website mentioned in my previous post for confirmation. I havn't found the shocks to be in the least bit twitchy when used solo. They are also a whole lot cheaper than Nivomats!

Reading the different posts, I was almost sure not to find nivomats in France.

Untrue, I foud them without problem at 110 euros each.

So it might be a good idea for you to source parts in other countries

the ride is terribly bumpy. I can really feel a tube ticket on the road. And it feels like it is a brick under my tyres.

Is that normal, will they improve with time ?
