when turning the wheel from lock to lock there is a clonk coming from the front end. there doesnt seem to be any play on the hub, could it be the steering rack? it also clonks when you bounce the suspension. please nobody say stut top bearing!

I would put good money on one of the following, bottom ball joint or track rod end, anti roll bar mounts, shagged damper or as you say 'top mount' Razz

sorry to not be more specific depends when it happens really I'm sure if i heard it i could tell you but you a little to far away i think?.

a few more details might help?

Top strut bearing. I had a nut go loose once, could be one of two things. check them out easy.

1 Bonnet up, remove the plastic covers, check the nuts are done up tight.

2 Bounce the car with hand on nuts at the same time, if you feel the clonk right there, its the top strut bearing.

As for the rest, go to your local MOT station and ask the guy if he will check out the front suspension joints for a couple of drinks, it'll save a lot of grief and dirty mitts, jacking it all up, applying big levers, etc, and trying to check it yourself.

Mine did this - turned out both front springs were snapped!!

Also the TCA balljoint had a bit of play but the springs were the main thing.

Not if you make sure you are touching the right nuts and if necessary get a second person involved.
I found touching the nuts and bouncing is better with two people anyway.
