I can't say to much as I prepared a car for this once, the parts did go to keep another on the road though.

What's worse for an SD1. To die in a banger race, or fail the MOT and
go straight to the crusher??

Out in a blaze of glory I'd say!

We had a vauxhall viva ha that was too rotten for economic repair which after i stripped the parts i wanted went out in a blaze of glory at a banger race . definitely the best way to go for a car .

Hmm i dont agree, i know of banger racers that will happily buy easily fixable cars and smash them up for the hell of it, plus theres a growing trend of stealing old rovers and granadas to use as there now so rare and not obtainable anymore. Practical classics had there own mint low miles mk1 Granada go just that way, but the police did nothing, the car was stripped and wrekced by the time they got hold if it.

I cant see the enjoyment of wrecking old cars myself, must just be me I guess, but to me its a bit of a hooligans sport. Have u seen some of the cars on there they smash up on that website, some real rarities. Shocked

I totaly agree, a friend of mine who ran a yard in Leeds, had all the banger people in for any classic he had, good or bad they would race them.
One race guy in talked of another race team just taking classic cars, they had stolen a mint Mk1 Granada off some poor chaps drive,Tax and Tested, stripped and raced it.........swines

I wouldn't mind having a go in something like a MK3 Cavalier. Something that is plentiful.

Mind you what is a classic in one persons eyes isnt in others, I owned a P5b 2 years ago and it was great but a bit too old for me so I sold it on. I went to a meet in the Sd1 when the P5 was broken (more often than not sadly) and one chap came over and said, nice Sdi that that will be a classic maybe one day, (this was last year!) Evil or Very Mad

I think theres alot of average cars cavalierss sierras bxs 405setc that will one day be all gone, when was the last time you saw a MK1 Cavalier or Mk3 (not 4) Cortina, even at a car show! NOt many as they were all run into the ground then probably ended up in the hands of banger boys.

Its part of our motoring heritage and should be preserved in my eyes and as for banger racing classic cars, I think is sacralidge and the offending parties should be shot! (if thats how you spell it) I am a realist and know we cant save every one and theres always the question of economic repair but thats a nother post for another day!

I will never condone bager racing classics or rare items! Evil or Very Mad But as said before something plentiful does no harm. Better people do this in a safe controlled environment than on the streets where some not all!, of the younger people might otherwise be driving stolen cars.

The fellow that had our viva ha for banger racing and his friends only race ones that are uneconomic to repair and move the bits on to people within the relevant car clubs . As argued in practical classics a few years ago there are always a minority who steal pefectly good classics and there are those who offer cars for restoration but have no takers and so eventually let the banger boys have them . As to using cavaliers , mondeos and peugeots in 20 years time will they be as rare as the morris marina is now .

I know the feeling, and my Vitesse is in the garage at the bottom of the
garden! Perhaps an investment in a Q-branch alarm

Yes but would you want you're car to explode if tampered with? Shocked Laughing

Seriously though, there are security bollards around which would defeat
all but the most determined toe rag.
