I have 4 distinct flatspots from nearly a decade laid-up in dry storage. Although there is a decent about of tread, I'm looking to replace all 4 as soon as possible. So, what recommendations do you have for a standard size tyre for my Vitesse? OE was what, Dunlop SP, I forget? _________________ 1985 Vitesse SP |

I think OE was probably whatever Rover had to hand or could get cheap. From memory,
my father's Vitesse TP had Avon Turbospeeds which were crap and quickly replaced by
PIrelli P6's (but that was 18 years ago!). |

Yep, Pirelli tyres were fitted most of the time on the later cars. |

Hmm, if memory serves, the Pirellis that were on the car "in-period" were fine in the dry, but dreadful in the wet. In fact, I think there are 2 Dunlops and 2 P6000s on the car now...
What's everyone running on currently? |

We had Pirelli P5's on the car from new, the spare is still the original P5!
Changed them at ten years old (!) for P4000's and now it actually wears Goodyear Eagles which I rate quite highly. |

I personally dislike Pirelli's had some bad experiences with P8's and P6's had a reputation of being poor in the wet.
I fitted a full set of 205/60/15V Goodyear F1's which have a good reputation, but are a little soft compound wise (so it sticks to the road ) but as I only complete 2-3k miles thay should last a while _________________ Regards

The other tyre I was looking for before I got the F1's were Yokohama A539's a nice retro pattern with suberb grip, although the size is being phased out I'm told (was my first choice for retro looks but the F1's came at the right price ) _________________ Regards

Original Equipment was the then new Pirelli P6, The P6000 would be the modern equivalent, is cheaper and better.
However, when I get round to it I might try Continental Premium Contacts. I had them on a hired Mondeo and the grip was excellent and the noise low. |

We have Continental Premium Contacts on my wifes 206CC the fronts needed replacing at 17k miles, the rears are now due for replacement at 22k miles, outer edges seem to wear off ( and no the tracking isnt out) and she doesn't drive hard! so I'm not impressed with them now running Goodyear NCT 5's. _________________ Regards
