They did for the US market and later the Oz ones too (some of the later Aussie series 1 cars had efi around 1981-2 just prior to the intro of the series 2 all of which had efi).

Unfortunately the efi system was the emissions compliant 'Federal' type, not the same as the Vitesse. It gave nowhere near as much power, especially since all the US and Oz spec cars had the Low comp 8.13:1 engines that only managed 140bhp tops.

The Federal system had first appeared on the TR8s that were imported into California in the late 70s to comply with that state's very strict emissions laws.
