I've put some pics of her in the garage scene section, other cars bit.
She is so fast, dyno showed 0-60 in 3.4 secs and standing 1/4 in 12 secs dead. Not bad eh? |

Traction? What's Traction?
She keeps catching me out in 2nd gear, rolling at about 30mph just off idle, floor it and she takes off and then just when you think you've got it under control (and you've melted the boy racer) the turbo spin up and the only way I can describe it is "she explodes" with power, lights up both the rear tyres, and last night decided to send me off snaking down the road, nearly took out about 5 cars and thought she was gonna end up on her roof. First time in years I've been genuinely scared and thought I'd over done it.
A car that will pull off a rolling burn out / pant pooing move from 30mph, that'll take some beating.
8mpg tho, hefty price to pay but as they say (who ever "they" are) if you've got ponies, you gotta feed 'em.
And her 70 to 120 mph is staggering, drop her into 4thm spin them up, then floor it, the needle moves faster than you can see it (Speed and fuel gauge :-p )and all the other cars look like they're braking or stopped....... She now goes like a hot rod should, too much engine in too smaller car that wrinkles the tarmac!!!!!! |

Sounds just crazy... Im planning on building a 4.6L twin turbo out of my SD1. It all depends on if I can buy a 4.6L for reasonable price and then source out 2x T34 sized turbos. It wont match your car in speed anyhow because SD1 is heavy boat compared to it. _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.

For fear of sounding like an anorak, I've been reliably informed that 4.6 isn't the way to go. Apparently the blocks are weak and crack, many drag racers pumping out big powered rovers don't use them. They stick with the 3500 block and put a 4.6 stroker crank in to up the cubes, them work heads etc etc.
The other thing to do is to use early 3.9 lucas 14 CUX hot wire injection, throw away the ecu and fit an omex one (quite expensive but really reliable and easy to map). Apparently, it's the inlet manifold that's good as they take standard Bosch injectors rather than other ones (apparently easy to fit bigger ones) and 400 - 500 horses with forged internals and 12 - 15 psi boost from a 3500 is quite easily gained.
That's where I'm going over the winter. If you can get a turbo set up complete, do so and modify it, it will be so much easier but less fun and less stress......
When we fired up this motor in the SD1 and took her for a spin, she fried the hydes and went sideways without too much effort, and 3500 blocks are cheap too, unlike shagged 4.6.
God, I really am an anorak aren't I? |

Good thing is that I have couple of 3.5L engines here. But still the 4.6L turboed sounds intriguing... I've heard the block cracking isnt such a big problem in these more light weight cars and its more a problem of the rangies where the engines are put under a lot of strain and then fed with lean mixtures to keep the fuel consumption even slightly smaller. Even more a problem of germany and britain where you can actually drive a bit faster unlike in Finland where theres a stalinist speed control and they take away your license from smallest things. Havent heard of any finnish 4.6L rangies with a cracked block... just german ones. _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.

Just passing on what I've been told and heard, would be a shame to spend all that time and effort and have such a fundamental failure it's gutting.
Similar thing happened, put a 2.7 ltr renault alpine engine in the boot of my beetle and after no time at all cracked the block in the V from front to back. I'd just rebuilt it with virtually new everything, ended up throwing it in the skip, honestly, that really hurt
I'll stick with my 3500 for now and spend the money on extra pants / washing powder (until I get bored and need more power, trust me, it does happen) and hopefully won't kill myself in the process.
P.S. With me (all 100 kg of me, fat git) the car weighs in at 900kg which really helps matters.
I'd hate to see the fuel consumption of one of these motors in an SD1, they must have been down into the 5's per gallon, frightning eh?
Kknow what you mean about Rangy motors, they are driven like knobs and they people in them seem to think they are sports cars, if you want a fast car bloody well buy one.... |

Yea biggest problem is that in past when fuel didnt cost arm and a leg people in germany drove the rangies like... 200km long distance FLATOUT! So no wonder blocks cracked. Ofcourse I have to admit that the "modernized" block does have its flaws. But as long as you got cooling sorted for both water and oil there shouldnt be a problem even on a track racer. _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.

Hmm... That punxors post kinda gave me an idea. Maybe you should try retrofitting a toilet seat into the car and route the "waste pipe" through the bottom under the car. Saves you pants... _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.

Happy Bunny | That combination of power and torque is just about impossible unless you're revving really, really high (like a bike), are you sure about those figures? |
