I'm in Canada and my car is setup for a very high ride height. It is not a 1980 NADA but an 84 VDP from Australia that was imported here by a fellow enthusiast.

The car is in very good condition, but I don't like how high it rides. It has Koni's fitted right now, I don't know the type, and the rear springs are numbered
CF3S
9205NA

But what I want is the Vitesse ride heght with good overall suspension. There are no speed bumps etc where I live so I don't have to worry about that.

What suggestions would you have for how to proceed in replacing the suspension to lower it? Forgetting Rimmers as the price & shipping is just not worth it, so I need to find a local alternative.

What the specifications are on the Vitesses height springs with regular shocks, not Boge's. i.e.e 30mm lowered springs, lowered from what?

If I knew this it would be easier source local springs

Thanks guys.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this. I think it'd be quite hard to get a definitive answer as there was no standard (non-self-levelling) vitesse spring...

If it helps at all I've just fitted what I believe to be genuine vitesse rear suspension and the ride height looks like this:

They're standard 205/60 profile tyres.

That begs the question, what is the standard ride height?

I thought this may be worth posting: Chris P has recently posted in another thread that the workshop manual figure for rear vitesse ride height is approx 373mm from wheel centre to wheel arch.

Taken from the Haynes Manual 365 Rover 3500 V8, in the supplement part which covers the later (series 2) models:-

Page 251, section 14, sub-section 6

I quote:-

"With the luggage area unladen, and the underside of the vehicle free of heavy mud deposits Shocked , measure and record the distance from the centre each rear wheel to the point on the wing vertically above the wheel centre. The distances should be between 15.75 and 17.75 inches (400 and 500mm); if not renew the self levelling unit(s) on the side(s) concerned."

It seems acceptable to have a varying ride height of up to two inches (or 100mm)!!

A bit vague perhaps, and the accompanying drawing appears to be a standard car, hence presumably we subtract Ramon's figure of 30mm, therefore perhaps the Vitesse height should be between 370 and 470mm? (sorry, don't know what that is in "old money") which also ties in with Chris P's Vitesse ride height figure of 373mm Very Happy

Hope that helps

Although 100mm is closer to four inches Wink

500mm = 19.69"
400mm = 15.75"
