Hi - just wondering if someone can please tell me if the drivers door is the only lock that controls the central locking. On my car, I can only lock /unlock all the doors using the drivers side. It would be nice if I could use the passenger's front door as well to save me leaving my 3 1/2 year old standing on the footpath while I go back to to the driver's door!

cheers.

Yes, the only control is in the driver's door. Its possible to fit aftermarket solenoids/motors to trigger the system from passenger door and there are anecdotal stories of folks doing that. It would require mods to both front doors.

There is another solution which works on my late '86 Vitesse.

Whilst standing on the pavement with the passenger door open, lean across and push down the locking button on the drivers door.

Exit the car onto the pavement and hold the handle in the opening position whilst popping down the door lock button.

Keep the handle in the same position and shut the door firmly.

Needs a bit of practice but be sure not to leave the keys in the ignition - DOH!

The earlier models have control in both doors. I think that last year with control in both doors was 84 made cars? Not 100% sure of it though. My car has them in both doors and its 100% OEM.

really? i've had five, ranging from 78 to 85, and never had central locking from the passenger door. unless it had seized from lack of use?

You could always lock the car as normal and open the passenger side with the key, then lock it after (it does work independantly).

The other idea that pops to mind costs money...buy a cheap Sparkrite alarm...then buy the single door central locking adaptor for an extra £30(I'd use the keys...infact I do Laughing )

yeah must be mate
unless they put the electrics in the right hand door, then got told it was a lhd vehicle, and quickly added the motor to the left hand door.
didn't have time to remove right hand motor as going out on strike the next day...... Very Happy
