Hello, my name is Jeroen Veldhuis, and live in the Netherlands.
I bought this car a few weeks ago in belgium. He said it was included in a deal with a Bastos car. License plate LSD 630 W, last owner (2004) is mr. Pickard from Guyhirn / Wisbech.
I was surprised to find a picture on thwe classistouringcars.com in the top banner. That car has the exeact colour scheme and wheel arches.
Does anybody have any info of the history of this car, because we want to rebuilt this car for the race tracks in Holland / Belgium.

The bonnet, front wings, back doors and boot lid are from "plastic"

i don;t know if my car is the same as the car with nr. 88 shown on the other picture.
but i paid € 700 (about GBP 450) for it.
it is a rolling chassis with gearbox and most parts of the engine (carb) thrown in the back.
coming week we will have a closer look at it and order parts at Rimmer Bros, so we can get started
If you have the part nrs of TVR braking systeem , please send them. |

Looks like Nigel Garrett's classic Thunder championship winning car to me, then fitted with a 5 litre engine and f/g panels including rear hatch and bonnet. Was a real flyer - my desktop background is a photo of this car

it's def not Garrett's car.
I'm interested if the wide wheel arches are FIA homologated for a race class.
We want to rebuild this car for historic racing and must be build correctly.
If someone has any info on homoligation please respond asap, or if someone can put me in contact who does know.

I believe Garrett's car was an ex Derek Hales racer that in turn may have been an ex Andy Rouse shell from the 83/4 BTCC. There's some info on this in the long thread on the Grp A Vitesses at

Garrett's 2006 car was No 88 and I thin it is the car in the bottom photo on the first post. He may have built a new one since then. _________________ TRACO

Found it! You're right it's not the Garrett car, just looks the same ... though the one in classic saloons web page is unmistakedly Garrett's racer.
I checked back through my SD1 archives and located the exact car offered for sale in Fast Car magazine March 1995. The picture shows the car, same colour scheme as now, big flares/wheels, even the stickers on the back quarterlight window are the same, as is the rear roof aerial. iT has a Vitesse rear spoiler on the boot.
The ad read:
"TUNED V8 Rover SDi. Wide arched GP4 fibre body panels, full comp cage, 8x16x10x16RFXsplit rims, tinted perspex glass. 5 months MOT, quick road car, 2850 pounds. Tel: 041 644 1050"
Could be the first owner/builder offering it. The f/g panels almost certainly came from MCR Rallying on the Isle of Wight. _________________ TRACO
