Oh god what a site... it basically says that Rover SD1 and 800 were unreliable and crappy. Just the opposite of my experience.

I don't really believe this unreliable BL argument - especially with that
clueless writeup "forget the sporty 3500 Vitesse version 'cos this one's
engine had been 'tweaked', leading to all sorts of problems'". More likely
BL just didn't realise the significance of providing 'product placement' like
Ford did.

The 'tweaked' engine wasn't the problem....I've had sporty Fords as well (though NEVER Vauxhalls) and I got to say the Lucas Flapper injection system on the vitesse is ancient and decrepid compaired to say...a Sierra Cosworth.

My only experience with a 800 was turning the key and starting it up.........Its as far as I wanted to go,terrible seats, dash, steering wheel, everything...........I could not wait to get out, give me an Escort RS turbo anyday.

I'm getting off track(maybe 'cause I'm drunk, check my spelling),my point is,Rover (BL) had the best design of the 20th century and could not make it pay, they cut corners every where, they demeaned their own products as cheap in public. In short they took a lump of gold and bronzed plated it.Vauxhall copied as much as they could(just look at a Cavlier) from Rover, got no where close but made it reliable and made millions.

I maybe wrong and drunk but please tell me,I'll be sober tomorrow and able to propably converse.

You need to experience 820 turbo with recaro seats. Its fun until you realize its FWD Evil or Very Mad

Hi
im not a fan of fwd 800s but turbod n tuned -damned fast cool.
I used to break down regular with my old sd1 tp [just old /worn out]
After talking to head police from aberdeen ,he told me the fleet of new vitesses they used were changed from efi to su,s still plenty power as we all know, but then were very reliable + virtualy eliminated tow ins Being tweaked wasnt the prob but unreliable system was.
I have used a holly for a year -no big issues .
I have used su,s for a couple of years .Touch wood no problems at all.Other than a service n tune for mot time reasonable power
Tp may return but not in its original form.
Still looking for another pair of dcoes to try on manifolds i made + ported to a couple of heads .Just a bit grippy to spend 150 quid on e bay

Hi Folks,

Mine is chassis 500 and just got exhumed for the MOT after 3 years of non activity, failed on one thing......... rotten exhaust!!!!!!!!!!! sounds like a Nascar at the moment.

She was registered in April 1976 according to the records and was with Rover group as the first keeper.

Tumeric Yellow, manual windows, single parcel strap etc

Nice to see a picture of your early SD1, Iain. A few very early cars have popped up recently - VIN 607 is for sale on the Club website. I believe there are 4 older cars than yours - including pre-production VIN 5. Do you plan to get the car back on the road?
