Oo! I guess that's July/August 2004 issue, one issue further back than I have - and
before I joined the SD1 club. It's also one issue further back than the club website
back-issues PDF archive
I bought the car in February 2005, the previous owner (in Worthing) only had it for
just 6 months, so fits with it being for sale around summer 2004.
I'll have to take a look at the advert sometime |

thought I might update this slightly.
Today(straight from a 14 hour) shift I decided to fit my larger twin plenum housing (each throttle body being 72mm) and FSE rising rate fuel pressure regulator.
thought you might like some comparison photos

as you can see it still looks standard (exept that its polished and has a center pull throttle of course)

I also fitted a set of Magnecor leads while I was there

Bloke I bought it off had it made special, fitted it to a Stag with a 3.5L conversion. He said on a rolling road it was great but on a normal road it would just go around in circles with LOTS of smoke coming from the rear tyres!!! |

No idea yet, need to find a throttle cable long enough to fit it!

I did fit it but changed my mind for the mo'.
The larger plenum is going to be part of a bigger plot...I'm thinking 3.9 (maybe even 4.6) with 4.6 heads, hot wire and a 4.6 afm with a custom y-piece.
I would like to go 5.3 or 5.5 but my wife threatened to leave me when I mentioned spending @Ģ6000 on what she terms "another old car"
She also said that surely leaving it standard would leave it worth more (I think she thinks I might sell it one day(as it said on one SD1 at the spares day "Sell my Rover? I'd rather shove wasps up my arse", Its here to stay baby!!)) _________________ Half Poly bushed 3.5 Twin plenum VITESSE(Waiting patiently for better weather)

As anyone I met up there might know I've had problems with someone re-wiring the car, thought I might tackle that today. See what you make of this.

You can only imagine what fun I've been having with a soldering iron and crimpers today.I've decided to replace the main feed with high quality amplifier cable, gold fuses and gold connectors (costs a lot but don't want to do this again), who would have thought these kids loud stereo equipment could come in handy?
This is the current main feed

Anyone wonder why I didn't want to drive 300 miles round trip with this? _________________ Half Poly bushed 3.5 Twin plenum VITESSE(Waiting patiently for better weather)

YEAA... Leds. Ive made all my dashboard buttons already into leds. But what I've noticed is that they might be a bit too bright at night?
You sure do keep your engine bay looking nice. But what I dont get is why you got hotwire system, twin plenum etc... and then use standard airbox? _________________ Owner of 3 Rovers and 1 MG.

Well,at the moment I'm still in the setting up stage(the air box contains a K&N filter by the way),there will be something interesting going in is place once it gets running ,I'm also trying to balance practicality whilst keeping the car looking as 'factory' as possible, its not easy but what I want is for people to see a basically standard car and not see the work thats gone into updating bits here and there (my EFI light for instance is a unused dash switch illumination)
You have really tempted me with the Led rear lights though ,as much as I want a standard look....I still fancy your led rear lights.

I like the sound of LED switch lights...
Would anybody who has done this be prepared to let us know how it's done? As for the rear lights, I would love to have those on my car, but am worried I would make a right hash of it! _________________ Auto Vitesse, gonna be a beast! |

the rocker switches are the easier of the two, basically I stripped the switch down cleaned (and coated the terminals with vaseline as a preventative),re build minus the bulb,IDENTIFY THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TERMINALS OF THE LIGHTING SECTION, clean a section of the teminal and solder on the wire of the led,it would depend on the type of led purchaced I suppose,I bought mine here:

Mine looked like this:

This was a prototype and I used an old switch that I had knocking around in a draw.
The push switches required a little more thought, again strip down and clean ( take care of the springs don't lose them),from there I drilled out the bulb terminals and drilled a new hole in the center, made a led holder by cutting a butt connector in two, placed it in the hole, put the switch together and sealed the back with a hot glue gun(then simply connect the wires into existing wires):

This is only the way I did it though,Lehto may well have found a better way of doing it.I'll admit I'm not the best at this sort of thing and it was just something to kill a rainy afternoon at the start.
Hope it helps,
Gareth. _________________ Half Poly bushed 3.5 Twin plenum VITESSE(Waiting patiently for better weather)
