From looking at an SD1 racer they had a race type tank in the spare wheel well with an external swirl then twin standard style pumps feeding the engine bay. I doubt they ran anywhere near your target power though...

I've no idea about the swirl pot, but the tank outlet is about 1/2" I.D., which I guess is respectable?
