I thought that I was the only one who had experienced a car with that eccentricity. In my case, the gauge worked quite well to the three quarter full mark, then dropped to zero. The car was owned by my son, who overcame the problem by simply using his odometer to work out when to top up the tank.
That car had another interesting eccentricity. Every so often the speedo needle would cease to function. We found that operation would be restored by switching on the heater blower and switching it off again.

I've got a similar problem, except that it drops to zero somewhere under a 1/4 of a tank remaining. Considering the crusted up state the sender was in when I first got the car, I imagine it is the cause. |

New sender needed, most likely, but check it first with an ohm meter between the sender signal wire and earth to see what happens to the reading when the fault occurs. _________________ Ramon

Oh! Oh! But ne'er mind Eh? I had this great idea! You know those fluid level tubes they use on construction sites. Just hafta pop one end in the tank and sit the other in the footwell, with a couple of ping-pong balls as an indicator, to gerra reading.

Imaginative
I find the sharp, stabbing pains in wallet are a reliable indication that fuel is getting low. |
