Hi again.. got lots of exhaust coming in when windows/sunroof are open.. My exh has the dog-leg, but it still wants to give me carbon monoxide poisoning.. Is this a design flaw? Or is something more sinister going on?

I have heard of this problem, but can it be fixed?

Ta!

Hello Andy,

If your exhaust tail pipe is as per the original spec and exits at the extreme edge of the O/S body line, then the typical "Straight Out SS Pipe" gassing problem is probably not applicable. However if the exhaust exit is not as described - despite the dogleg, then it is.

Then again, your other post on rich mixture would indicate that all is not well, and you may have so much noxious fumes being generated and getting into the cabin from a (say) faulty exhaust system or thro an ungrommetted bulkhead access hole.

The low cabin pressure caused when you open the window (described in the link) sucks in air from all around.

Andy, check the six rubber vent flaps on the inside edge of the rear hatch. They need to be in good condition, mine were dried and curled up, i replaced them all and cured the problem.

Hi those vents make an odds so does the tailgate seal .A fair bit of turbulance on sd1 poss worse with a spoiler .Estate cars generaly suffer worse if the vents or main seal dont close.
