Hello Rod, it should not be anywhere near as heavy as you describe. My TP clutch has always been quite light and allows slick gear change (*) with only about 1/3 pedal travel.

Indeed it is so friendly, that its possible to drive the car on the open road using just the cruise control switch and slight clutch depression to change gear without needing to touch the accelerator.

* Luckily I have a very friendly LT77 gearbox which synchronises beautifully.

The clutch failed with a big BANG about 8 years ago and my son fitted a new one complete with a clutch release bearing and front gearbox seal. The cause of the clutch lever jumping out of position was a mystery but we put it down to the oil leaking thro' the front seal.

In addition, the gearbox is radically cleaned with a mixture of ATF and white spirit, then fresh lubed with Mobil 1 0W40 + Molyslip every 3 years since 1996 so the relationship between clutch and box could not be better.

A word of warning - the firewall in front of the pedals is not very well re-inforced so unless you find a solution you will eventually break through into the engine bay.
