Hi guys,

in the test report I found some interesting remarks.
The suspension has been improved, the front spring more weak but the damping firmer. The back was lowered a little bit. There was also a change in the mounting of the stabiliser.
The picture shows the ride high.
According to the Rimmers the VDP has the same springs as the Std. 3500 but the levellers from the Vitesse. Possibly the Rimmers are right and the Vitesse levellers result in a slight lowering of the car, as can be seen in the picture.
I hope somebody can explain me something about the front suspension changes, because I couldn't find any analogies elsewhere.

Cheers
Christof

Hello Christof Do you have a copy of the Heritage dvd Rom workshop and parts publications .This may be of help to you and is available from rimmers.I have used it loads for the axle part of my restoration. It shows all parts used on sd1 and gives part numbers that arent all there on rimmers catalogue. Some time you can cross reference parts Ie sd1 diff sun gear shims are in TR7 catalogue same part number yet rimmers havent put them in sd1 catalogue.TA TAA for now JJ

Thats very helpful, thank you, I will send an email to the Rimmers and ask for the CD.
My question in the moment is, are my front springs of my 3500 std., built 1977, the same as the ones of the Rimmer catalog No.: GRS 137?
My Rover is very high legged and I want to lower it without degrading the comfort too much.
Thank you in advance.

Cheers
Christof

Have you measured the ride height,it wasnt a 2600 before was it?they had stronger springs as the engines were heavier.Just a thought!

It's an original 3500 mk1 and is higher than on the picture above.
In the Rimmer catalogue for all models from 2000 to 3500 ccm the part no. is the same. Possibly the springs of the respective part number GRS 137 are lower than mine. That's what I have to find out. I would not buy the Vitesse springs until I really know the differences.

cheers
Christof
