Hey i've just purchased a 1983 'A' 3500 SD1 Vitesse and the fuel gauge just seems to sit at 1/2 a tank whatever i do, could this just be a dodgy sender?

cheers

Quite likely, it seems they can go crusty if they spend a long time not submerged in fuel. I'm sure the carb tank is the same as the EFI in this regard, so fold the back seat down and lift up the boot carpet. On the nearside you should see some wiring running underneath a strip of foam, beneath this is the sender unit, and possibly also the fuel pump.
