Does anyone have any oil recommendations for a standard v8? I've tried doing a search on here but haven't come up with anything useful.
I'm thinking of using some semi synthetic 10w40, would this be ok or there another type that these engine prefer?
Thanks a lot |

Yeah, either 15W-40, 15W-50 or 20W-50. |

Are we talking about a manual or autobox? _________________ 1979 Rover SD1 V8-S

Well it's a manual box, but as silverleaf says I'm talking about the engine
I think I'll try this 10w40 semi synth and will see how I get on with it.
Thanks for the replies! _________________ Carl

I actually took a look at the oil info in the car's handbook today (SP vitesse), the oil recommendation for our climate (-10*C to 30*C) was 10W30, 10W40 or 10W50. Thicker oils like 15W50 were also specified, but only for 0*C as a minimum temperature. Thinner oils were also speced for colder climates.
I was quite surprised as 10W30 is rather thin and mine leaks from a couple of places since having 10W40. |

That's what i read in my manual too. But the car's 25 years old now so decided to go for 15w50 instead. Halfords sell it thats specifically designed for older cars. Only put it in an the weekend but hopefully it'll be ok! _________________ Carl

For what it's worth I've found Millers Sport 20/50 semi synthetic to be excellent in my VDP EFI. It gives a much better oil pressure particularly when the engine is hot. |

I was going to put some 20w50 in my Vitesse, as that's what I normally put in my older cars. Was also going to put a can of Molyslip in with it. Anybody add anything to that? Is Molyslip any good for a V8? Also where can I get hold of some replacement hoses for my engine oil cooler? As one of the hoses has perished. I was going to use a replacement heater hose, but will that be good enough?? _________________ Auto Vitesse, gonna be a beast! |

I wouldn't put any of these oil additives in a lawnmower... Seriously, they can do only harm...
EFI fuel hose (the thick, black, fabric reinforced stuff) should be fine for the oil cooler |
