I know that its possible to fit discs to the rear as per a recent article in the SD1 club magazine but I've got the standard 4 pot setup on my vitesse and when the system is setup properly with fresh fluid, new seals, fully bled, rear brake adjusted, etc etc etc the brakes are pretty good, particularly the fronts.
So it might be that your system will just need tweaking or some routine maintenance.
Have a look at the following full description of the SD1 Braking system to see if there are any clues for improvement.
ie Goodridge hoses, moisture in the sytem, bleed procedure for 4 potters, higher boiling point fluid, etc

A number of small improvements might make all the difference.

Thanks Ramon that was a brilliant read!.I puzzled over two things though.

I'd think my car will be in normal use, maybe much less in winter. But what performance items would you recommend? EBC brakes?

What would mine be?Early or Late?,Its a 1984 Vandenplas. Is it a case of pull off the wheels and lookings at the webs?
Thanks for helping me. |

Regarding High performance brake pads, Ive never bothered, because I have a top speed limiter set to 70mph and drive like an 69 year old. (ie speed cameras and an old fart) I always use branded names though. At the rimmers site it would seem that the best option would be the matching uprated discs and pads, but in Ireland you may not have too much need that level of performance for nearly 500 quid unless you have to stop suddenly to get a guinness.
Bearing in mind that the car is 23 years old it may not be carrying the original discs but I would say at 1984, it would be more likely to have had the later full webbed versions, but just have a look.
