Hi All,
Been lurking in the background for a while.
I,ve owned 4 SD1,s over the last 22 years , I,m not that old too!!
I currently own a '86 Moonraker Blue Twin Plenum
It,s off the road at the moment as I,m building an extension onto my house. I hope to use it again this summer.
I,ll try to post an image of my brothers' car from 1990.

Hey. I'm 17 years old (18 in less than a week). I love the Rover SD1. I recently got a Rover Vitesse. However, I unfortunately know little about it, and even less about restoring cars. My Vitesse needs a fair amount of work and so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Farquar.

Hello all!
I've recently bought a 1985 Vitesse TP in Targa red. I use it daily. It replaces a Toyota Lucida (don't ask).
I've had in the past the following SD1's:
1977 3500 Turmeric
1981 3500 Persian Aqua
1980 V8-S (well, I persuaded my Mum to ditch her Marina for it)
1981 Vanden Plas (series 1.5)Black
And now the Vitesse!
It has a bit to do, but it's pretty good. Worst areas are panels of different shades, but no real grot. boot leaks, fumes are horrific, and there's no stereo, but the thing makes it's own music anyway!
This all started by me standing next to Tony Pond at the start of the 1984 RAC Rally in Chester. I was an impressionable 14 year old at the time, and man, did that car sound good. By the time I was 18 I had a TR7V8 works replica rally car and the yellow SD1!
It's in the system, you just can't get rid of it!
Alll the best from sunny North Wales,

How's this for now?
I don't have any decent photos of the Vitesse yet, but this was my Series 1 back in 1988, when I was 18.
Can there ever have been a more beautiful car?
Also note the back of my Mum's V8-S!
I've got some good photos of the Vitesse my best mate had too! I'll try and get them up soon! We used to live Rover SD1's when were teenagers! (no girlfriends then!)
All the best,

Here's another one, my Mum's V8-S, 1988, shorthly before the crannk snapped (honestly!). She loved it; it used to groan when she switched it off. She thought that was really funny. Also the headlamp wipers used to remind her of sooty crying! It really used to wuffle as well.

Those are two SD1s which would be very rare now - are they holed up
in a garage somewhere???? |

No! Both gone. The yellow one is still on the DVLA computer, but now in blue. I don't think the V8-S made it, Mum part-ex'd it for a Metro (!).
The V8-S was a bit of nail, but she loved it. it certainly had character!
I'll try and dig out some more photos of the 'S'.
Cheers,

Mum complained for a few days of a really bad rumbling noise, then it seized. When we pulled the engine out, we found the crank had sheared. Moral of story, ALWAYS listen to your parents.
My yellow series one was a minter. Maybe a shame now to have put all the Vitesse bits on it, but it really looked amazing. I should have kept it, but you can't hang on to everything! _________________ I wish I could make my own petrol. |

'ning all!
just managed to fulfil one of my longtime held ambitions, and finally got round to getting into an SD1
Foolishly, i have broken the cardinal rule of buying cars: DO NOT BUY THE FIRST ONE YOU LOOK AT!, but i seem to have gotten away with it as its got 12months MOT, and there aint too much rust as far as i can tell.
So, i'm now the proud owner of a red C-reg VandenPlas V8. Blimeh, i love it, nice gruffly exhaust note, and seems to handle great as well.
I've taken some photos with my phone, but i've lost my cables to connect it to the pooter, so no pictures as yet, but i'm still working on it. _________________ '85 VandenPlas V8 |
