Factory Black - Factory Manual - 1984 - 3500SE
Proper K n N conversion complete with filters and Bentley Turbo needles fitted and the addition of electric fans so gone from 155bhp as standard is now 190bhp and goes like stink. A body strut brace for more rigid stability for corners etc, also a rare Clutch brace to stop the bulkhead moving About 8 years ago the previous owner took the Colonel on a 'Run what ya Brung' and achieved the 1/4 mile at 87mph and in under 13 seconds so for a car of this size is rather acceptable. This will put many boy racers to shame.

Hello all,

My name is paul and i have recently come across an early sd1 and managed to strike a deal on it.Its been off the road a while but is basicaly in good condition and not needing a great deal to return it to the road.

I shouldn`t really have bought it as i already have too many old cars/ongoing projects but when i heard that it was a series 1 sd1 i just had to go and see it.I had quite a few sd1`s when i was younger and for some reason i have always been a fan of the early models probably out of nostalga as i can remember them being quite striking when they were first launched,i was 7 years old at the time.As soon as i saw it i knew i would have to find a way of giving it a good home.

I will be collecting it soon and my intentions for now are just to do a bit of tidying up and return it to the road for a while before embarking on a light restoration to bring it back to its former glory.

I live in birmingham and it would be great to make a few local contacts in the sd1 world for a bit of friendly advice and some help in sourcing a few spares.

The car has suffered a light rear tap so i will definately be needing a good rear bumper(early stainless type), an o/s rear light unit and possibly a good tailgate.

As soon as ive collected the car i will post more info and some pics.

Ive now collected the car so i thought i would post some more info and a couple of pics.
Its a 3500 auto registered 28/6/76 chassis number 1854, it has had two owners from new, the first being A B Smith who was the last chairman of the original Rover Car Company, total milage from new 49,900.
The chap i bought it off bought it direct from A B smith eighteen years ago and has only done 7000 miles in it.It has been garaged from new and this has obviously extended its life as although it has a few marks and dents its very original, 99% rustfree and very solid.
Unfortunately the previous owner reversed it into a post some time ago so i need to repair the rear and tidy it up before i can return it to the road.
Since i bought it ive joined this forum and also done some research via interenet,books et`c and from what i can make out this car must be one of very few remaining early original unrestored sd1`s around therefore i feel i must bring it back to its former glory.As the car was the a rover factory/A B smiths car it has had a couple of production improvements in its early life ie later 2 strap shelf and later rear badges(I would like to get hold of a couple of ealry type badges), apart from these items its completely original and is a decent factory spec that includes electric windows,stereo cassette,passenger mirror,metalic paint and even has a set of NOS alloys/nuts and caps in the boot(i cant decide which wheels it would look better on).Anyone with any parts that could help in the restoration of the car please let me know.

that's beautiful paul, really is. apart from the damage to the back end obviously. imagine having it all that time and only doing 7,000 miles in it!

Not much else to tell really. Don't currently have an SD1. I came across this site whilst looking for ideas on a possible future SD1 project.
I've been working away from home for a few years now and I'm desperate to get back home and get behind the wheel again. With petrol prices the way they are I'm thinking about buying a small daily driver plus an SD1 for the weekends and possibly track days.
I did serve an apprenticeship as a panel beater but it's not going to serve me to well as I'll be mainly looking to increase the performance, rather than screwing around with the nice lines of the car.

My access to the 'net isn't very reliable so I can't get on the forum as much as i'd like but I do enjoy looking at the pics of what you guys have done with your cars so please keep putting them up.

Moe. As you are currently in India, track down a Standard 2000 and bring it to the UK

LOL. I almost slipped a disk in my neck when one of them drove past me a few months ago. Most cars here don't last very long. Very surprising to see something from the 80's still up and running.
