sorry for my ignorance but where does the steering rack go on the SD1, is it infront or behind the wheels, and if behind how does it sit under the engine/box?

presuming they have racks and not boxes?

It's definitely a rack on the vitesse and it's not against the bulhead like on newer cars. I'd say it was just a little in front of the axle from what I remember (I changed a track rod arm gaitor in the summer).
