I had a few emails with the DVLA about MOC229P until they found it had not been on their records since 1985 so they wouldn't contact the owner which they were going to do for me.
They said if the keeper was now dead it could cause upset to family, which is right I guess, shame I would have loved to have found out what became of it or if it was sat in the garage rusting away.
DVLA is a great way at getting information.....roll on my new project _________________ Keep smiling |

MOC229P was a pre-production car, registered 22/4/76. This is over 2
months before first customer registrations (1/7/76).
Not sure the car would ever have left BL/Austin-Rover ownership, after
being driven by stunt drivers and Patrick Macnee? Probably a similar
story with the press-fleet LOE81P-LOE109P which all (almost)
disappeared from the DVLA system in mid-late 1980's. Except LOE99P
in the heritage museum at Gaydon of course.
It would be good to get the story on MOC229P (or MOO229R ) and
the LOE press fleet. |

Ah! I'd been told about this car, but take all SD1 stories with a pinch of
salt. Especially 'N' reg SD1's - never seen a picture of pre-P reg, though not
surprising if they were development ones.
Why does it never make an appearance at SD1 club events? Surely it
should have appeared at the 30th earlier this year. |

Yeah, I did sort of believe it as a name was mentioned and dates in the
Pender book tie up with N-reg. Though only 9 cars completed which could
be N-reg - so an amazing survivor.
Would be great to see the car and see the differences to the early
production cars. |

Its practically the same as a production car, only very few small differences, the rear badge says "rover" and on the other side it was "3500A", i spoke to the new owner at the spares day this year and he said i will be around next year. _________________ 1979 Rover SD1 V8-S

I'm sure I've seen a picture of a 3500A badge bar somewhere - presumably
that's 3500 Automatic?
Interestingly, the DVLA still have a record of JYF228N (i.e. oldest SD1 +1
reg) - as a black Rover 3500. Black wasn't available on early SD1's, could
be a P5 or P6 though? Or another of the SD1 prototypes?? Last recorded in
1991 though. |

Hi all new member here so forgive me for mistakes!
Did some checking into MOC a few years ago and it was unfortunately scrapped on 14/04/88.
It had 5 previous keepers with the last change of keeper being on 28/06/84.
Also from chassis number the car had a manual gearbox. |

Wow! Now that's interesting stuff.
There must have been several 'MOC229P' cars used. In most scenes in
both the New Avengers and The Professionals (tape used to make the
plate read MOO229R), the car is automatic. There is at least one scene
in the New Avengers where the car is manual though. Furthermore, one
The Professionals episode shows the car with alloys, in one scene, then
with cloverleaf trims in other scenes!
I would be interested in documenting anything you have on MOC229P. |

thats a great shame if it has been scrapped. i love watching the avengers episodes with the yellow rover.
read in a book that it was a very troublesome car and was always breaking down. |
