I'm sorry too, hillbilly, I too know what an "encouraged" sale of something dear to you feels like, hopefully someone you know, who is an enthusiast will buy it, so you can keep an eye on it, or perhaps you may not be so keen on that either, seeing your lovely car being used by someone else. If I had £3.5K....dream.....

K5, why not consider a LHD conversion and taking her with you? Begs the question really, wonder how many SD1s there are in other European Countries, were they sold in Spain, France etc..?

Don't worry if i can find a way of keeping her i will. May have to store her over there untill i can afford to use her again.
I will be tring to find out how many there are. I will be paying visits to the excellent scrap yards there and getting hold of any bits i find and selling them. I used to see an SD1 in my Wifes Town but not seen it for some time. The beauty of British cars over there is that they do not rust!

A non rusting SD1 that would be wonderful, saying that if you buy this moneths practical classics and look at the article in there about the huge hoard of SD1 parts that are being brough back from India, looking at the pictures there was a load of new unused but rather dusty bodyshells along with the parts.

Imagine buidling a NEW Sd1! Very Happy

Yes, a new body shell, wouldn't that be a dream? To build your own SD1, carefully and slowly, any colour you want, rustproofing every millimetre of metal as you go, screwing it together better than the factory did, what a dream. Wouldn't mind betting those shells are sold already.... Perhaps we should lobby British Heritage to re-start new SD1 shells like they do for MGs, TR6s etc.

Lol i dont think we would get anywhere mate, Im going to ring and ask rimmers next week to ask what they did with them though! I guess its possible to build a new Sd1, some parts would have to be reconditioned I expect, dont remember seeing complete new back axles and of course you couldnt buy new seats just get them restuffed and recovered, also door panels, to be honest they werent upto much anyway so a nice leather covered ones with proper sound proofing would be a good idea!

Hows about a brand new computer controlled 4.6 V8 VDP with a 5 speed auto, ABS brakes, discs all round, electric seats modern aircon....... oops ive just realised im daydreaming! If anyone seen OVERHAULIN' on sky tele thats what they do, get a old car improve it with modern brakes, suspension, and electrics but keep it looking like a slightly modified old car.

Sold to the guy who was interested at Gaydon, he is already an sd1 owner, a 2600 vdp. So at least its gone to a deserving owner! Very Happy
For now have bagged myself a 1994 Jag XJ40 sport, no v8 noise but lots of car for very little money, still retro enough for the A11 meet too I hope!!!!
Listening to the tp drive away through the town was gut wrenching!!!! missing it already.

Don´t worry they are very retro now. Starting to turn up as staff cars in classic mags.
At least your car has gone to a deserving home. Do you think you will get another? you should put up some pics of your new beastie.
