Not sure what they're called, but the little triangular metal part on the front edge of the front door, the bit to which the door mirror attaches....

a) What are they actually called?
b) Are they available?

My driver's side one is suffering corrossion, looks like the door mirror is lilting a little too as a result

Jay, I just call them door mounts. I dont think they were listed seperately as a PN, so probably were not christened.

Try this.

I bought a pair of manual SD1 mirrors from the Rimmer India stock at knockdown price when they first hit the showground at Billing in 2006. Fiver each if I recall correctly.

Having removed the mirrors from my car during winter strorage, I stripped out the manual mechanicals and transplanted the electrical innards from my Vitesse. Tricky but do-able.

Cleaned up all the electrical connections too and coated them is vaseline.

Result, brand new , gaskets door mounts and frames, as black as yer hat, and shiny new chrome back too.

Did not use the new glass because, despite searching for 10 years, I have never found a source for replacement or substitute heater elements and removing elements from existing glass is just too risky, re damaging the element.

When I locate a suitable heater pad I will mount them to the new glass and - presto - another cheap-scate solution.

Their actually called front door channels with part numbers at rimmer with JRC1542 and JRC1543. Not sure if I understood correctly what you wanted. There is a wrong picture of the front window channel... it has the triangle integrated to it.

If you need to replace the heating elements in your mirrors

Assuming you can't just buy a heated mirror element for another car with similar sized mirrors, what about cannibalising a pair of these?

They have got to be a decent bet at £15.

Or perhaps you could roll your own, this forum had a good suggestion. Perhaps someone who knows about electronics could see if it is sensible?

The handlebar grip heaters..... I did look into using these, but they
are FAR too powerful. The ones listed on the links at 36W, the original
Norrell heater elements are 6W. More is not better in this instance!

The nichrome wire could be used. Indeed one of the elements I have
has exactly this type of element - just a bit of nichrome wire. This has
not manufacturer's name. I'm not sure if it's an original Rover item,
all the other elements have been the Norrell items, which use a printed
resistive track.

I have made my own heating elements using heater pads from RS.
I used a 5W pad, mounted using it's self adhesive backing to the
mirror back. This is then all no-nails double-sided tape attached to
the mirror casing. It works too!

Also, in case you have a spare mirror or a line on a cheap one, but it's the wrong side, the glass is interchangeable left to right.

I did think about adding a thermal switch, so the element is only
on when it's <5C or something, but didn't bother in the end.

OK guys, that aforementioned piece of triangular black metal (Bracket?)where the door mirrors attach to, the driver's side has now corroded to the point where it has given up the ghost, it's no longer interested in holding my mirror where it should be, it has let go completely allowing my driver's door mirror unit in its entirety to hang limply by it's wires........

I was wondering whether the Rimmers NOS manual mirrors (Part Nos AJM 1625/1626) had this bracket included?

Does it come with the door gasket kit (Part No RTC 2866)?

or

Does anyone have a spare they could sell me?

I can see the door needs to be dismantled to replace this?

If I've understood you description correctly. The solid triangular piece where the whole mirror assembly mounts to the door, is part of the glass run channel.

Part No.s JRC1542 for RH side & JRC 1543 fo LH side, and yes most of the door does need to be dismantled to replace. Rimmers still list them in their price list.

I've looked at that part when someone else suggested it, but it just looks like a brassy/chromey channel to me, I can't see the mirror mount bit (unless of course I'm missing something....)
