Hi all,

I'm Chris, I'm 26 and I have an obsession with Rover 800s. I have seven at the minute. Owned way too many in the past.

Point of my post is that I've been thinking of getting an SD1 for ages now. Partly due to liking the look of them (very similar to MK1 800 fastbacks) and partly due to my dad owing a few of them years ago.

He had three as I remember, a T reg 3500, a Y reg 3500 SE and a B reg 3500 VP EFi.

I even remember the reg numbers. Embarassed Laughing

I'm after advice I guess. I've never driven an SD1 but fancy picking up an average one for average money to see how I get on with it.

What do you suggest? It'll only be a toy not a daily car. Naturally I want a V8. What sort of prices are realistic for a car that has a decent MOT?

Hello another Chris!

You have SEVEN Rover 800s? Where do you keep them?? I am starting
to get a soft spot for the early 800s, before the stuck-on grilles. The
early Vitesse wheels (5 spoke, reverse angle things) are lovely. Styling,
Roy Axe did an excellent job of mimicing the SD1 profile in the fastback.

£1000-1500 should pick up a decent series 2 Rover SD1. Series 2 are
post 1982 and are generally better made than series 2, and far more
plentiful. Ebay is a good place to start looking, also Classic Car Weekly
has a few, and the Rover SD1 club website

.

The Vitesse is the most desirable and commands the best prices, a good
one will be £3k+. The VDP EFi is better value if you can find a good one,
same engine but auto. There is a buyers guide on

. As always, check a few out as there
are still quite a few sheds around.

Hello mate.

At home strangely. Laughing

Not a recent picture but you get the idea. Strangely I don't own of those cars now. It was only 2 years ago as well.

Thanks for the tips.

It is blue as it happens. It's a saloon, what was yours?

It did have sport wheels on in the past. I bought it in October I think. Guy I got it from had it for about 10 months.

Here it is.
