If I am to understand the manual which I have .........The oil pressure sender unit which has the wires for the electric fuel pump, starter solenoid
and coil connected to it..............is also a safety switch so that in case of ultra low oil pressure it shuts the power supply down to the fuel pump and i would assume the ignition coil...... and that this is to protect the engine from further damage.........

Can anyone let me know if they have had this problem with the sender unit becoming faulty..........and causing the no go scenario.

John

I have heard of it occuring... Easiest way to test would be to be bypass the oil pressure sender (I imagine it's just an on/off function?), or run a temporary permanent live feed to the fuel pump.

In my carb car the problem of fuel pump not running was in the + connector of the battery. It was so full of that green corrosion crap that my fuel pump didnt run... i thought it was that oilpressure thing also at first but after bypassing it the pump still didint spin. So I had to take a drill bit and then spin it in side the battery connector to get all the crap out from there, that place where the bolt goes through the "shoe"... after that it worked very well.

Hope that made any sense.

Yeah that happened to mine too but i just bridged the wire at the 3 pin connect so it continually pumped.....

The problem I think is that while the engine is cranking power is taken away from the coil and dizzy......

I think what I'll have to do is find which connection on the ignition switch is for the coil and run a wire direct to the coil.....
bypassing all the sender units and the such....

This problem seems to be common when they are gettin on in age like me. All SPARK NO Fire Laughing

Very Happy Hi Everyone....

After much research (RTFM) I have discovered the problem

There is a yellow/white wire which runs from the Starter Solenoid to the Ballast Resistor ( This seems to have something to do with the safety cutoff feature). I disconnected this wire from the ballast resistor and voila.........Problem solved.

My thoughts are that if the solenoid is getting a bit long in the tooth.......the contacts in the solenoid tend to maybe corrode or wear away and and when the engine is cranking the power is non-existent to the coil. When releasing the ignition key this then supplies a surge to the coil allowing it to start but once the charge is gone the motor will not start.

If you are electrically minded your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanx John
