I used to own a lovely white P5b saloon like the one in that picture, its amazing that people still banger race them along with P6s, SD1s and most popularly 60s farins and Jags. I used to watch banger racing when I was kid and saw alot of SD1s meet their end that way.
Nice P5s are fetching good money nowadays (£5-£10k) but arent cheap to restore so hence why the "projects" sometimes end up on the track, but there is some snobbery in favour of the Coupes being what everyone wants (like the Vitesse)
Regarding banger racing, if the cars knackered, worthless, not rare etc then fair enough but you hear horror stories of realy rare cars being bought or even stolen from unsuspecting owners and sent to the track as the older the car the more desirable. You can guarantee once a 50s farina hits the track everyone will aim for it, sad but true.
Im still amazed the do pre 67 races!
On another note the current bidder has interests in "stock cars!" so there future doesnt look rosey!
