I was told that the engine can be crossdrilled if it has "places" for the bolts in the block. How can I recognize the "places" for them? Theres a 3.9L low-comp engine in one rangerover thats being broken at my dads company yard.

It should have the bosses built into the side of the block where the bolt holes can be drilled through. The "interim" 3.9 engines fitted to the post 94 series 1 LR Discos had this set up, along with the serpentine belt front cover but with a conventional dissy (unlike the P38 Range Rovers). Also had the longer nose crank with the integral oil pump drive.
