Afternoon all

I'm having issues with the oil pressure/coolant temp/fuel gauges. they've been in and out a lot over the past few weeks as I'm trying to get them all working properly. As you may have read elsewhere last time I tried them the temp warning light was staying on until the car warmed up, and the coolant and fuel gauges were reading nonsense - varying between min and max.

Well I've had it apart again, and have put in a new voltage stabiliser and thermal delay unit (not entirely sure what that does!!) to see if that helps with the gauge problems. Haven't had chance to go out for a drive yet though, but the temp warning light has stumped me completely.

I've had a multimeter hooked up to the feed wires for the light and the voltage starts at about 12.5v and slowly drops as the car warms up. Where does this feed come from? I assume the sensor on the front of the inlet manifold is for the gauge, but where is the warning light sensor? And should the voltage be dropping doing that? I hate electrics!!!!

Any help appreciated!!

Cheers

Carl, I'm not at all an expert, but I think the warning light sensors, there is one on the radiatior and another on the expansion bottle.

Of course, more than happy to be corrected

Additionally....I believe the light indicates low coolant level rather than high temperature...??? although naturally low coolant will obviously lead to high temperature.

Indeed, the light indicates low coolant. Perhaps the sensor is duff? On an EFI the level sensor is in the plastic coolant expansion tank, and the temperature sensor itself if threaded into the cylinder head from memory.

That makes a bit more sense then - the temp gauge sensor is in the top of the inlet manifold as I've been fiddling with that to get the gauge working. From memory I think there were 2 sensors in the expansion tank and one on the rad - I'll go have a play with them later to see if I can sort the light out.

Cheers guys!

You're right, I was removing the rad earlier today and found another sensor in the end tank. I can only assume it's a level sensor?
