this took me about 2 weeks to do and i had to wreck a good set of dials to do it but as far as i know mine is the only sd1 to have them fitted, i just think rover should have fitted the as standard but saying that i was only 4 years old when my car was made...some people will like them and some wont but i just wanted to make mine that little bit different to everyone elses...also has anyone noticed the rev counter and speedo are on the wrong side there is a story behind this but thats for another day.......sorry about the caps its a habit

Hi Andy, Not the only set of white dials on an SD1! I also have white dials in my car, just not the original ones like yours. See my profile in members cars. Whilst your in there, lets see some photos of your full car and the modifications. Welcome to the forum, hope to see you at some of the shows.

How did you colour the original dials?

Cheers

its a very long story so ill keep it short Very Happy Very Happy i made some exact size dials on my pc useing my scanner and a lot (week) of editing to get them identical to the originals then stripped the clocks down and placed them over the top of the originals.then painted the needles red..i used special photo graphic card which gives a shiney surface but is thin enough to let the light through Very Happy Very Happy
theres quite a bit more to it but thats the basics and i made a copy of all the finished dials so if i need a spare set in the future all i have to do is print them off...as im not spending another 2 weeks editing and trial fitting... Shocked Shocked

How tricky was swapping the speedo and rev counter?

I have often thought that Rover should have fitted them that way round because as they normally are you can't see the 70mph bit cos your hands are in the way

hi Very Happy im not sure as on the engine rebuild record it says that the engine was re-built at 137000 miles due to pore running and when the engine was re fitted they also zerode the milage (it currently has 17000) so it looks like when they put the dials back together they put them the wrong way round, i was going to put them back when i did the white dials conversion but i just think that it makes mine that little bit different to everyone elses so i left them..it doesnt look like a big job on the back of the dials just everything needs moveing over.... Very Happy

looking good mate. the clear indicators don't always work but they suit yours down to the ground. the sd1 club has a spares day which will also be our national due to s**t weather. they seem to have dropped gaydon and are looking for alternative venues. will probably be early september i should think. also i have some spaces for sd1s at the retro rides show at mallory park on saturday august 11th if you are interested.

Dropped Gaydon???? Where did you read that??? That was a good
venue for last year's National (shame it wasn't this year as it was on
tarmac).

ian taylor of the sd1 club - gaydon is definitely off because rimmers, who supply the prizes, are not able to operate from gaydon. i thought they were at the national last year, but i could be wrong. anyway ian is seeking alternative venues for the national cum spares day 2, in the midlands area. if anyone has any bright ideas, tell him or tell me and i'll pass it on. i suggested seeing if there was anywhere in the longbridge site to hold a show. or maybe solihull as someone suggested for a trip?
anyway it's all up in the air at the moment. not even sure if it's still september 9th?
ah well...it's all good fun eh!! Rolling Eyes

I've not heard this officially; Rimmers were not at the National last year (Gaydon) - I
wondered why.... But why would Rimmers not be allowed to operate at Gaydon, but
others spares seller are able to sell there??? Rimmers are a member of BMH, so can't
be a classic car pariah?

Solihull would be a good place to hold an SD1 event, given the history. The SD1 plant
looks pretty much deserted on Flashearth images - and has a large car park adjacent
to it (once the production SD1 holding area).

i don't know why rimmers can't go there either. why did we have the national there then?
i will suggest solihull to ian although i suspect he is looking for somewhere where there's something else to do, in the hatton/gaydon sense.
getting fairly short notice to sort something new out for early september!!
