Have you tried pulling the column out and up a bit, gives alot more space.

I've been looking for the same thing and this is what i've come up with...

I've used this guy in the past for a steering wheel/boss kit:

You can get a Mountney boss and a 4 spoke 13" Mountney vinyl wheel for £37.95 + £6.95 P&P. I like the wheel design, but found the vinyl a bit cheap feeling.

However, I asked him yesterday and he'll do the Mountney boss by itself for £15 + £5.95 P&P. I'm thinking about buying this and then sourcing a cheap wheel later on.
